
Nick Lund (Rivers School), Eric Green (St. Marks) and Pat Burns (Lexington HS) from our very talented Class of 2012 have both made verbal commitment’s to their respective colleges for the 2012-2013 academic/athletic year. Lunk and Green both had participated in our 17U program last season that won a Division 2 State Championship and attended the AAU National Tournament in Florida.

College Committments Include

For starters, Pat Burns (Lexington HS) will make a verbal committment to attend popular basketball school New York University. Pat last season was one of the most productive players in our high school program, helping to lead his team to a State Championship and a strong bid at the AAU National Tournament in Orlando, Florida. We will be watching Pat’s progress at NYU closely, both on the courts and more importantly in the classroom.

Eric Green (pictured above) will be playing ball next year at Holy Cross College. A 6″5 player, Green has a ton of long term upside and already is a “Division 1 Ready” perimeter defender. More on Eric Green and his college choice can be seen here.

One of a key players from last years Junior-Class, Stephen Tam (Hamilton-Wenham HS) last year was selected as the “Cape-Ann Small Player of the Year” and is having a very productive season for The Generals. Last week against Lynnfield, the Hamilton-Wenham Generals won by 8 points, 17 of the points were scored by Tam!

Lexington Minuteman feature a lot of members from the Mass Elite Basketball family. Alumni who play for “The Minutemen” from our Class of 2012 include Pat Burns, Myles Penniman and Sam Morrison. Current Mass Elite players Josh Sharma (Class of 2014) and Chris Van Etten (Class of 2013) also have gotten some burn in some of the early season games.

Middle School Player Highlights

ELITE Youngsters Crowned Champions at MLK NH Spartans Tournament
The Mass Elite 3rd/4th grade winter travel team coached by Coach Polli and Coach Leavitt went an undefeated 3-0 playing against some of the most competitive teams in the Granite State. The boys have had a fantastic Winter season onlyh losing 1 game so far. More importantly though all players are having a lot of fun and are continually improving their skills. Players on our “team of champions” include – Jake Barisino (Westford), Jeff Goguen (Billerica), Alex “Gonzo” Gonzalez (Peabody), Bobby Sweet (Acton), Christian Turner (Wakefield), Harrison Latimer (Topsfield), Vinny LoGuidice (Billerica), Michael O’Keefe (Wakefield) and Randy Leavitt (Woburn).

Demartinis, Foutter and Penniman Face-Off in Middlesex League Battle!
Some of the top young prospects from our 7th grade team, Michael Demartinis (Burlington), Matt Foutter (Lexington) and Cooper Penniman (Lexington) recently faced off against each other in a tight Middlesex League game. Penniman scored 24 points and played outstanding defense while Demartinis provided a strong presence in the middle. Burlington ended up winning by a small margin of 49-47. Andre Braga (Winchester) and Ryan Veguilla (Middleton) who are pictured above, attended the game to cheer on their teammates!

”ELITE” WINTER TEAMS CANNOT BE STOPPED
Mass Elite Basketball Winter teams are all off to a very productive start! Available to local players whose towns do not offer town travel programs, we currently offer Winter travel teams at the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade levels. Despite the programs overwhelming success, all teams still have a lot of basketball left to play! Soon all teams will be competing at the MLK Weekend Tournament sponsored by the NH Spartans and the league playoff tournament taking place throughout towns in Cape Ann and Middlesex. Good luck to all of the players participating in our program!
Whipple Goes “SKY HIGH” at the TD Banknorth Boston Garden
Calvin Whipple from our 13U National team recently got the opportunity to take the jump ball at the TD Banknorth Boston Garden when his local travel team got invited to play at half-time. Calvin (pictured-above) easily won the tip-off with thousands of fans in attendance. Congratulations to Calvin for getting this very special opportunity.
Coach Dettorre’s Wakefield Team Wins Tourney!
Congratulations to the 7th grade Wakefield team (consistong of 11 Mass Elite players) for winning the Woburn Holiday Basketball tournament held over Christmas break. The team did very well, facing some very stiff competition. The highlight though of the week was a 1 point victory over a very tough Winchester team. Good work boys!

Current 8th grader Nino Pingaro (Middleton) is only one of many players in our middle school program enjoying big seasons for their town travel teams thus far this winter! Players and families have reported a lot of progress in the development of their skills on the court and also in their overall measure of their confidence when on the court.
